MINER, Mo. -- Auditions for the sixth annual Telethon Idol will be Feb. 19 at the Miner Convention Center in Miner. Registration is at 11 a.m., and tryouts will start at noon. A $10 registration fee is required. All ages are welcome to audition a cappella. This is a singing competition only, not a talent contest. If selected, contestants will perform live March 19 at the Kenny Rogers Children's Center's 31st annual Telethon at the Sikeston (Mo.) Field House. *** Movie celebrates U.S. figure skating history
NCM Fathom and U.S. Figure Skating will present the cinematic feature "RISE" as part of a special in-theater event at 7 p.m. Feb. 17 at AMC Town Plaza 5. This one-night-only event will celebrate American figure skating, while commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Feb. 15, 1961, plane crash in which all of the members of the U.S. World Figure Skating team perished. The movie will include choreographed figure skating performances, interviews with American figure skating legends, a red-carpet extravaganza and the world premiere of "RISE." Peggy Fleming, Dorothy Hamill, Scott Hamilton, Brian Boitano and Michelle Kwan will serve as storytellers for the film.
