The 14th annual Clark Terry/Phi Mu Alpha Jazz Festival will be held at the River Campus of Southeast Missouri State University this weekend and will include more than 500 high school and middle school jazz musicians and enthusiasts. The gala concert at 7:30 p.m. today at the Bedell Performance Hall features guest performer Allen Beeson with the jazz ensembles from Southeast. Beeson, who lives in Columbia, Mo., and owns a moving and storage company, is an accomplished jazz trumpet player. He has played with jazz artists Clark Terry, Dizzy Gillispie and Louie Bellson. He has worked with more mainstream artists like Ray Charles, The Temptations and Little Anthony and the Imperials. Twenty-four jazz ensembles will perform for three experts, receive written and recorded comments as well as a clinic session at the end of their performance. St. Louis Symphony announces season

ST. LOUIS -- Many well-known favorites will be part of the upcoming season for the St. Louis Symphony. The orchestra announced details Tuesday for its season that starts Sept. 28 and runs through May 12, 2013. It will include performances of Beethoven's Symphony No. 9, Handel's "Messiah," Mozart's Requiem and all-Mozart and all-Tchaikovsky programs. Meanwhile, after a 14-year hiatus, the symphony will return to international touring with a trip to Europe in September that will include stops in Berlin, London and Paris.
