The Missouri Department of Conservation's Cape Girardeau Conservation Nature Center on Saturday will offer several sessions of its popular program "Nature Art: Nature's Decor," using nature's resources to create winter wreaths, swags and garlands. Programs are offered at 9 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Participants are requested to call the nature center, (573) 290-5218, to register and are asked to bring a wreath. The center will provide items with which to decorate.
Abbey Road Christian Church will host its fourth annual Plowshares International Fair-Trade Market from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the church, 2411 Abbey Road in Cape Girardeau. It features products from farmers and artisans worldwide. More information is available by calling (573) 335-3422.
WSIU Public Broadcasting will mark the Jan. 3 premiere of the final season of the Masterpiece series "Downton Abbey" with a screening Saturday of the season's first episode at the River Campus of Southeast Missouri State University. A one-hour reception will precede the screening. The event is from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Glenn Convocation Center. Activities will include door prizes and photo opportunities with life-size cutouts of characters Anna and Bates, Carson, Lady Mary and Violet, the Dowager Countess. Attendees are invited to dress in 1920s-era costume. Event sponsors include SoutheastHEALTH and Hutson's Fine Furniture.
Students in Southeast Missouri State University's 2-D design class, AR104, are exhibiting their work in the Dobbins Center Hallway Gallery from Dec. 10 through 16 with a reception scheduled from 2 to 3 p.m. Dec. 12. The exhibit, titled "Colorless," will feature black-and-white pieces created by students enrolled in the course taught this fall by Emily Booth.
