River City Players hold auditions for first show
The River City Players will hold auditions for the first show of the 2006 season, "It Runs in the Family," Wednesday and Thursday at 7 p.m. at the River City Yacht Club above Port Cape Girardeau. The play, written by Ray Cooney, is a comedy based in a hospital and features roles for seven men and five women ages 18 and up. The audition will consist of a cold reading of the script. The Arts Council of Southeast Missouri will hold its new fund-raiser Trivia Night at the Cape Girardeau Senior Center, at 921 N. Clark Ave., on Jan. 28. The public is invited to attend a night of trivia with cash prizes, a raffle, snacks and drinks provided. The cost is $10 per person. For more information, call the Arts Council at 334-9233.
The Arts Council of Southeast Missouri is currently seeking entries for its 2006 ArtsCape Poster Design Competition. The winner will have his of her work printed on posters and T-shirts sold at the 2006 ArtsCape Festival. Entries must contain the words "ArtsCape" and "2006" in the design, and are due by Jan. 31. The winning design will be unveiled on March 18 at a special party in the Buckner Riverview Room. For more information, call 334-9233.
Southeast Public Radio, KRCU, will air a 13-part series, "Unfinished Journey: The Lewis and Clark Expedition," beginning at 9 a.m. Sunday. The Arts Council of Southeast Missouri will feature the works of Cobden, Ill., artist Lee Spalt and Bailey, Colo., artist Angie Buckley Jan. 6 at its First Friday opening reception. JONESBORO, Ill. -- Bald eagles will be the featured attraction in Union County throughout January and February at the Union County Refuge near Jonesboro. Wintering eagles and Canada geese will flood the refuge, giving visitors a chance to see the birds in their natural habitat, with park rangers available on weekdays to answer questions.
