Arts awards nominees announced

The Southeast Missouri Arts Council, 32 N. Main St., has announced the 2012 candidates for the annual Otto F. Dingeldein and Friend of the Arts awards. Nominees for the Dingeldein Award are Jeanie Eddleman, Don Greenwood and Dr. John Shelton. The award, established in 1975, honors individuals whose artistic achievements have had a considerable affect on the cultural enrichment of the Cape Girardeau community. Nominees for the Friend of the Arts Award are Dr. Bob McCool and Chris Edmonds and the staff of Element 74. This award, established in 2002, recognizes those involved with the Arts Council in a capacity that helps the organization achieve its goals for programming and outreach. Recipients will be announced at the annual meeting for Arts Council members, 5 to 7:30 p.m., Jan. 4.

'DUCKumentary' presented at wetlands center

CYPRESS, Ill. -- The Cache River Wetlands Center will host a movie series this coming year with the theme, "Game Species: More Than Just Food." The series will focus on the natural history of hunted species found within the Cache River watershed. The first movie night will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, and feature a PBS special, "An Original DUCKumentary." The film follows a wood duck family as a male an female create a bond, migrate together across thousands of miles, nurture and protect a brood of chicks and come full circle as they head to their wintering grounds. The AmeriCorps staff will hold a short discussion after the showing. For more information, contact the Cache River Wetlands Center at 618-657-2064. Missouri Arts Council announces grant guidelines

ST. LOUIS -- The Missouri Arts Council's website at missouriartscouncil.org provides guidelines for applying for funding in fiscal year 2014 for projects taking place from July 1, 2013, through June 30, 2014. Applications are being accepted for funding arts education, community arts projects, electronic media arts, festivals, folk arts, literature, multidiscipline and music, both vocal and instrumental. The council also is accepting applications for new touring artists. Off-year applicants also must apply for continued funding.
