'Chicago Caper' auditions Jan. 5-6

Open auditions for the River City Players' production of "The Chicago Caper" will be held Jan. 5 and 6 at Port Cape Restaurant, 19 N. Water St.

The play is set in the Roaring Twenties and requires four males and four females who have the ability to ad-lib. The play is audience-interactive.

Auditions will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Jan. 5 and from 6 to 8 p.m. Jan. 6. For more information, contact Wayne Heiser at 339-9402.

'Charming Billy' auditions Jan. 5-6

Open auditions for the family comedy "Charming Billy" will be held at 7 p.m. Jan. 5 and 6 at the Route 25 Hall south of Jackson.

Major roles are for two teenage girls and a fortyish mother and father. Supporting roles are available for a middle-age female neighbor, a teenage boyfriend, a young newspaper reporter and a middle-aged woman and middle-aged man.

Those who try out will be asked to read from the script.

Rehearsals will begin Jan. 9, and three rehearsals per week will be required.

Performances will be Feb. 21 and 22.

'Miracle Worker' auditions Jan. 6,7

PADUCAH, Ky. -- Open auditions for "The Miracle Worker" will be held at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 6 and 7 at the Market House Theatre, 120 S. 2nd St.

The Ink Spots to sing at SIU

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The Ink Spots will perform Feb. 1 at Shryock Auditorium.

First formed in 1934, the Ink Spots recorded the hits "If I Didn't Care," "I Don't Want to Set the World on Fire" and "I'll Never Smile Again."

The group will be accompanied by the Southern Illinois Symphony Orchestra.

Shaolin Monks present self-defense exhibition

ST. LOUIS -- Kung Fu martial arts will be spotlighted in the theatrical event "Shaolin Monks -- Wheel of Life," to be presented at the Fox Theatre Feb. 11.

The show presents the Soldier Monks of the Shaolin Temple and six young trainees, all from China's Henan Province, in a choreographed self-defense exhibition. The order was founded in 495 A.D. and is rooted in daily rituals and deep spirituality.
