'Blithe Spirit' to be performed

"Blithe Spirit," a play by Noel Coward, will be presented at 7 p.m. today and 2 p.m. Saturday in the Kinder Performance Hall at Cape Girardeau Central High School, 1000 S. Silver Springs Road in Cape Girardeau. Tickets will be sold at the door.

New Paint for a Cause chosen

A new Paint for a Cause will be on display during normal hours through the end of February at the Painted Wren Art Gallery, 223 S. Plaza Way in Cape Girardeau. This cause is co-sponsored by the Chrome Queens Motorcycle Riding Group, and all donations will go to breast-cancer research. Any visitor to the gallery is welcome to paint for a minute or so for a $1 donation.

Art gallery updated at nature center

"Beauties of Missouri," a collection of floral oil paintings by Maryann Roth, will be on display throughout December in the lobby at the Cape Girardeau Conservation Nature Center, 2289 County Park Drive in Cape Girardeau. Artwork submitted by contestants in the Junior Duck Stamp Contest also will be on display. For more information, call (573) 290-5218.

Window exhibitors to be displayed

The co-op window exhibitors for December and January are Nikki Heuring and Barbi Myres. Their pieces will be displayed through Jan. 28 at the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri, 16 N. Spanish St. in Cape Girardeau.

Uptown Jackson to hold parade

The Jackson Christmas parade will follow the Christmas Pajama Fun Run, which starts at 4:50 p.m. Saturday. The parade will begin at Capaha Bank at Main and Farmington streets and end in uptown Jackson. The theme is "Storybook Christmas."

Chaffee Christmas parade Saturday

The Chaffee, Missouri, Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday. The parade will start at the Chaffee Head Start parking lot and end at the Chaffee High School parking lot on West Yoakum Street. Participants then can enjoy refreshments in the high-school cafeteria after the parade. This year's theme is "A Disney Christmas."

Scott City to host Christmas parade

The annual Scott City Christmas Parade will begin at 5 p.m. Saturday and run along Main Street from Bob's Foodliner to Scott City Park, where the Honor Choir will be performing. Santa Claus will be available in the park after the parade, along with refreshments. This year's parade theme is "The Polar Express." Floats are needed; if interested, contact the park office at (573) 264-2322 or city hall at (573) 264-2157.

Ste. Gen to host Christmas festival

A Christmas festival will be held all day Saturday and Sunday in historic downtown Ste. Genevieve, Missouri, along North Main Street. The event will include a Christmas parade, carriage rides, photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus and more than 30 musical programs. There will be carolers in the streets, holiday refreshments in the shops and art galleries throughout the downtown area. For more information, call (573) 883-7097.

Sounds of the Season concert to be held

The Southeast Cancer Center and South- eastHEALTH Foundation invite all to attend the 21st annual Sounds of the Season Christmas Concert from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Cape First Church, 254 S. Silver Springs Road in Cape Girardeau. All proceeds will go to the Cancer Care Fund. The concert annually raises money for the Southeast Cancer Care Fund, supporting the many needs families face with a cancer diagnosis.

Handbell choir concert planned

New McKendree United Methodist Church will host a handbell choir concert from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the church, 225 S. High St. in Jackson. The concert is free and will feature Christmas music presented by the Love Handbell Choir.

Arts Council to host percussionist

The Arts Council of Southeast Missouri will host a recital for Christopher Wilson, percussionist, for solo marimba from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the council headquarters, 16 N. Spanish St. in Cape Girardeau. The performance will be free and open to the public. The marimba is a large keyboard instrument with rosewood bars, played with yarn-wrapped mallets. The repertoire for this program will include original classical compositions for the marimba, all by living composers.

Journey reading to be next week

A Journey reading, titled "Write Out Loud," will be from 5 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Cup 'n' Cork, 11 S. Spanish St. in Cape Girardeau. The reading is open to all spoken-word artists, creative writers, lyricists and those who have something to say. The event is free and all are welcome.
