Scholastic Arts Exhibit at Cedarhurst
MOUNT VERNON, Ill. -- The 2004 Scholastic Arts Exhibition will open Jan. 17 in the Main Gallery of the Mitchell Museum at Cedarhurst Center for the Arts.
The exhibit includes works by students in grades seven through 12 in the 19-county region of Southern Illinois.
Also going on display Jan. 17 in the Children's Gallery is an exhibit titled "Arts Around the World." The works spotlight many of the world's different cultures.
Admission the museum is free. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday.

'Five Views of the Midwest' opens Jan. 9
"Five Views of the Midwest" will open Jan. 9 at the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri.
The exhibit presents the different interpretations of the Midwest by artists Jeff Aeling, Tim Anderson, Ahzad Bogosian, Michael Dubina and Jeffrey Vaughn. Aeling paints the turbulent skies of the Kansas prairie, Anderson captures the geometric shapes of highways and overpasses, Bogosian and Dubina paint rich landscapes, and Vaughn concentrates on the plant life and river views near his home.
The arts council is located at 32 N. Main St.
