Cape Girardeau band on 'The Indie Zone'
The Cape Girardeau band Cadence will be featured Sunday night on "The Indie Zone," a new radio program produced by The Zone 107.1 FM.
The weekly locally produced show spotlights the work of independent artists based within two hours of Cape Girardeau. Hosts Tabatha Thompson and Jaron play independent music and interview musicians from 10 to 11 p.m. each Sunday.
The members of the alternative band Cadence are Seth Gerlach, Paul Miller, Foster McGinty and Pierce Yates.
"The Indie Zone" is working with a local promoter called Everseven, which is trying to book bands that appear on the show. Cadence will perform at Our House in downtown Cape Girardeau June 21. Last week's featured band, Hotel Faux Pas from St. Louis, plays at the River City Yacht Club Saturday night.
One goal of the program is to give original music by local bands a forum. "Cape Girardeau musically does not have a whole lot to offer but cover bands," says Jaron. "We're trying to get new music out there."
The show welcomes submissions of original music by local bands. It already has 37 bands it is working with. "It's going to take awhile to cycle through," Jaron said.
The station hopes the program inspires local musicians to play their originals, he said. "Cape Girardeau has a lot of talent, but people are scared to use it because they're afraid they can't get gigs like that. We're just going to stick them on the air."
