Crowe Gallery will display photographs taken by Brian Alworth during December. There will be an opening reception for the show from 4 to 8 p.m. Dec. 7. Alworth does exclusively film photography, color as well as black and white, on medium- and large-format manual cameras. Most of his artwork consists of landscapes.
The Salvation Army and Wehrenberg Theatres are teaming to help feed the hungry in the Cape Girardeau community with the annual Canned Film Festival. From 10 a.m. to p.m. Dec. 1, moviegoers can receive free movie passes for that day if they bring in five cans of food. A 15-can donation will garner a free movie pass for that day, along with a free voucher for a movie in the near future. Volunteers also will be needed to help box the canned goods. The 25th annual Holiday Home Tour, which benefits the Lutheran Family and Children's Services of Missouri, will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 1. Participants will tour six homes decorated for the holidays. A refreshment stop and tour of the clubhouse at Waldenpark also are included. Tickets may be purchased in advance for $25 at America's Mattress, The Bank of Missouri branches in Cape Girardeau, Jackson, Perryville, Mo., and Marble Hill, Mo., the LFCS office or www.lfcsmo.org, Patrick's Furniture, Southeast Hospital's gift shop and Sunny Hill Garden Center. Prospective Southeast Missouri State University students interested in majoring in dance are invited to attend Dance Day 2012, hosted by the Department of Theatre and Dance on Dec. 1 in the Holland School of Visual and Performing Arts at Southeast's River Campus. The event allows high school students to experience dance in a college environment. The event is free and open to all dance students in ninth through 12th grades. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. in the River Campus Cultural Arts Center lobby. Participants will have the opportunity to attend two free master classes, ballet and jazz from 9 to 10:30 a.m. and modern from 10:45 to 11:30 a.m., taught by Southeast's professional dance faculty. After the master classes, high school seniors are invited to attend the departmental dance scholarship auditions. In addition, all Dance Day participants will receive free tickets to the afternoon performance of "Fall for Dance 2012," scheduled for 2 to 3:30 p.m. in Bedell Performance Hall at the River Campus. Students enrolled in "Class Voice for Musical Theatre III" in the Department of Theatre and Dance at Southeast Missouri State University will perform a recital at 3 p.m. Dec. 2 in Shuck Music Recital Hall at Southeast's River Campus. The event allows Southeast singing students to display the skills they have learned throughout the semester in a course designed to teach them advanced vocal technique and principles for performing. "Class Voice for Musical Theatre III" is the most advanced vocal class available to Southeast students. The repertoire of the recital ranges from early Broadway to contemporary Broadway, from more traditional pieces by Irving Berlin and Richard Rodgers to more emerging contemporary musical theater pieces by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. The recital is free and open to the public; it will last about one hour with no intermission.
