Mingo photo contest winners on display

The fourth annual Mingo Swamp Photo Contest winning entries have been hung at the Cape County Nature Center. The photo contest features 52 photos of animals, landscapes or plants from both an adult and a teens division and is on display through October.

Nature Center holds arts program

Artists draw inspiration from everywhere, including nature. The Cape Girardeau Conservation Nature Center will host a presentation with artists and musicians showing how they incorporate nature into their art and music. Listen to folk music, see arts and crafts and a concert by the Suzuki Strings from Southeast Missouri Music Academy from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday. Call 290-5218 for more information.

Sikeston Little Theatre opens 2009 season

SIKESTON, Mo. -- Sikeston Little Theatre is presenting the children's classic "The Secret Garden." This is the second teens production done by the theater, in which young people do everything from play selection to direction to acting to backstage crew. Tickets are $7 in advance, $8 at the door, and can be purchased or picked up at Collins Music in downtown Sikeston. Performances will be at 7 p.m. Thursday to Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sunday at the Albritton-Mayer Cultural Center, 506 S. Kingshighway in Sikeston.

Arcadia Valley fills with music for festival

Ironton, Mo. -- The Arcadia Valley Mountain Music Festival on Oct. 16 to 18 will feature bluegrass, country and gospel music. The festival includes a quilting and spinning booth, miniature train ride for children and a stage set up for pickers and their own instruments.
