Acting Out presents 'Night of Living Dead'

George A. Romero's cult classic "Night of the Living Dead" will be presented by Acting Out! this month in Jackson. Directed by Kasey Cox, seven strangers fight for survival while under attack by flesh-eating ghouls. This show includes close interaction with the zombies and other scary scenes, so children younger than 13 should be accompanied by an adult. Performances will be at the municipal band shell in Jackson City Park at 7 p.m. Oct. 24 to 26. Tickets can be purchased by calling 382-0630 or emailing kaseyacox@gmail.com.

Arts Council has works by Miller, students

The Arts Council of Southeast Missouri, 32 N. Main St. in Cape Girardeau will host a reception for Cape Girardeau artist and Southeast Missouri University professor Justin Henry Miller from 5 to 9 p.m. Nov. 1. Gallery 100 will display artwork by his students in the Lorimier Gallery. All of the artwork will be shown until Nov. 30. The Visual Arts Cooperative will debut new works by Barbi Myres and Tom Neumeyer in its gallery space at the Arts Council. The Visual Arts Cooperative also will offer fine-art miniatures priced under $75 for the holidays.

Empty Bowls benefit Salvation Army

The eighth annual Empty Bowls Banquet will be from noon to 2 p.m. Nov. 3 at the Salvation Army, 701 Good Hope St. Admission will be $12 at the door, with proceeds benefiting the Meals with Friends program offered by the Salvation Army. In addition, the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri, 32 N. Main St., will display 15 handmade bowls for a silent auction from Nov. 1 to Dec. 6. Bowls will be offered for sale at booth No. 97 at the Arts Council-sponsored craft show at the Osage Centre from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 23 and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 24.

Grammy Award-winning Kanye West will perform at the Scottrade Center on Dec. 2 during The Yeezus Tour. Joining West will be Kendrick Lamar, who has emerged as one of the brightest young talents in hip-hop. Tickets for the St. Louis show will go on sale at 10 a.m. Monday at the Ford Box Office at the Scottrade Center, Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at 800-745-3000 and online at ticketmaster.com.

Saturday social includes printmaking demo

The next Saturday Social at the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri, 32 N. Main St., in Cape Girardeau, from 1 to 3 p.m. Nov. 2 will feature printmaking students from Southeast Missouri State University. A demonstration will given on basic printing and screenprinting techniques and terminology. Students from the printmaking department will do live T-shirt printing. Visitors are encouraged to bring T-shirts or other articles of clothing upon which to have the design of their choice printed. Blank T-shirts will be available. Prices are $5 if you bring your own shirt and $15 if you need to buy a shirt. Those planning on attending are asked notify the Arts Council at 334-9233.

Mr. Jack Daniels' Band will perform at Bedell

Mr. Jack Daniels' Original Silver Cornet Band will perform at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 8 in the Bedell Performance Hall at Southeast Missouri State University's River Campus. The band is a re-creation of a small-town band that existed in Lynchburg, Tenn. The modern version of this band was created by David Fulmer, who wrote the show and performed as "Perfesser" for many years. Since 1978, the band has performed throughout the United States and Canada. Tickets may be purchased by contacting the River Campus box office in the Cultural Arts Center, 518 S. Fountain St., from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays, by calling 651-2265, or visiting RiverCampusEvents.com.

First Friday with Arts has dance previews

As part of the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri's Nov. 1 First Friday for the Arts celebration, Southeast Missouri State University's Department of Theatre and Dance will preview several excerpts from its Fall for Dance 2013 concert planned for Nov. 21-24. Previews are scheduled from 5 to 5:45 p.m. in the River Campus Atrium, from 6 to 6:30 p.m. at the Arts Council at 32 N. Main St., and from 6:30 to 7 p.m. at Bilderbach's Art Plaza, 5 N. Main St. The Fall for Dance 2013 concert will feature a variety of dance styles, from classical ballet to modern and from tap to jazz. Dance concert performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Nov. 21-23 and 2 p.m. Nov. 24 in the Bedell Performance Hall at Southeast's River Campus.
