The Cape Friends of Traditional Music and Dance will hold a contra dance from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Christ Episcopal Church in Cape Girardeau. All moves of the dance will be taught, with a free session for beginners to be held before the dance from 6:45 to 7 p.m. A donation of $1 or $5 is requested for students. To celebrate the opening of the movie "Gone Girl" and a new exhibit at Cape River Heritage Museum, Dr. Jim Dufek will present a program about the filming at 11 a.m. Saturday at the museum, 538 Independence St. in Cape Girardeau. The program will be free to the public.
Tom Neumeyer and Christy Mershon will be the guides for the annual Haunted Downtown Walking Tours in Cape Girardeau. The tours -- set for 7 p.m. Oct. 16, 23, and 27 -- will reveal the "true" ghostly tales associated with some of the city's landmarks. Participants will gather before each tour at the pavilion across from Hutson's Fine Furniture on Main Street. The fee is $20 for an individual or $30 for a couple.
Robin Smith, director of the Technology and Resource Center at the College of Education at Southeast Missouri State University, will present a program on creating a family cookbook at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Cape Girardeau Public Library, 711 N.
