Sonya Lorelle, a piano-driven jazz and folk artist, will perform at 6:30 p.m. today at the Stev-Mark Gallery in downtown Cape Girardeau. The show is free. Lorelle will perform again in Cape Girardeau this summer as part of the Underberg House Concert series.

Duo Wishing Chair to perform Saturday inCape

A women's duo known for its accordion and banjo playing, harmony and storytelling will perform a concert at 8 p.m. Saturday at Francine's Gardens in Cape Girardeau. University professor to present organ recital

Dr. Gary Miller, a professor of music and chair of the Department of Music at Southeast Missouri State University, will present a faculty pipe organ recital at 8 p.m. Feb. 12 in Old St. Vincent's Church in Cape Girardeau. The program will feature masterworks of German and French composers including Felix Mendelssohn, Johann Krebs, J.S. Bach, Jean Langlais, Louis Vierne, Oliver Messiaen and Cesar Franck. The organ at Old St. Vincent's Church was installed in 2002. Miller was the area consultant for the project and played during the dedication ceremony. Tickets are $7 for the public, $6 for Southeast faculty and staff and senior citizens, and $5 for students. Tickets may be purchased in advance by calling 651-2265.

Charity art show for New Vision Counseling

Guest artist Marty Riley will be featured during a charity art show from 5 to 8 p.m. Feb. 10 at New Vision Counseling Center. A $5 donation is suggested for tickets and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the counseling center. Riley is known for her portrait paintings and for murals. Other local artists will be featured in the show as well. For information, call 334-3486.

Play auditions will be held at Paducah theater

PADUCAH, Ky. -- Auditions for "Murder at the Howard Johnson's" will be held at 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday in the Market House Main Stage Theatre. Two men and one woman ages 25 to 55 are needed for the play. No experience is necessary. Performances will be April 8 to 24. For information, call (270) 444-6828.

'Richard III' will be presented at SIU Feb. 18

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- William Shakespeare's play "Richard III" will be presented at Shryock Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 18 by the touring repertory theater The Acting Company. Tickets are available by calling (618) 453-2787.

Exhibit of perspectives in photography at gallery

Three new exhibits on photography will fill the galleries at the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri during February. Photography by local artist Dr. Joel W. Ray will be on display at Gallery 100, photoconstructions will be featured in the Lorimier Gallery and a new display will go up in the Visual Arts Cooperative gallery. The exhibits will be on display Feb. 6 to 28. An opening reception will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Feb. 6. Ray, an area neurosurgeon, has gained attention for his photographs of the newly-opened Bill Emerson Memorial Bridge. He has taken 8,000 photographs of the bridge during its construction. His work has been on display at Grace Cafe and were featured in an exhibit at the H&H Building. A blend of photography, digital manipulation and collage are what Nevada artist Les Barta uses in his photoconstructions. His work has been influenced by his study of sociology. He has pieces in permanent collection at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Harvard University Art Galleries and the Denver Art Museum. The Visual Arts Cooperative is a group of 41 local artists who each choose a new piece to put on display every month. The co-op has a permanent gallery at the Arts Council and each month, three members exhibit their work in the galleries front windows along Main Street.

Disney Dazzle to be held at Central Junior High

A celebration of 12 years of Central Junior High School musicals is to be performed Feb. 6 and 8 in the junior high auditorium. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 6 and 2 p.m. Feb. 8. Members of past musical casts will present highlights from Disney classics. Tickets are available at the school office; proceeds benefit the choral program at the school.

High school art exhibit to open Sunday

An exhibition of art by area high school students will open Sunday at the University Museum in Cape Girardeau. An opening reception will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Awards will be distributed at 2 p.m. The show will continue through Feb. 22.
