Met Opera's 'Macbeth' showing Jan. 12
The "Metropolitan Opera: Live in HD" series will continue Jan. 12 with a showing of Verdi's "Macbeth." Opera performances are being shown in broadcasts to theaters worldwide, including the Town Plaza in Cape Girardeau.
CYPRESS, Ill. -- The Cache River Wetlands Joint Venture project is offering a two-part workshop on digital imaging with photographer Dave Brewer on Jan. 20 and 27. People who take part will learn how to photograph winter wildlife, including a large number of waterfowl, at the Cache River Wetlands. KENNETT, Mo. -- Southeast Missouri State University trumpet player Brooke Privett will give a preview of her senior recital with Southeast faculty Matt Yount on piano and Marc Fulgham on trumpet at 3 p.m. Jan. 13 at the First United Methodist Church in Kennett. The performance is part of a series sponsored by the Kennett Friends of Music.

'Outside the Box' opens at phd gallery in St. Louis
ST. LOUIS -- Artist E. Gibbons will display 100 monochromatic oil paintings of nude male and female figures inside boxes at the phd gallery in St. Louis starting Jan. 19 through March 8. The black-and-white paintings are virtually life-size, painted from live models who posed in 3-foot-by-3-foot boxes. The gallery is at 2300 Cherokee St. Gallery hours are noon to 4 p.m. Thursday through Sunday. For more information, call 314-664-6644.
ST. LOUIS -- The Saint Louis Art Museum will begin a film series of prize winners from the 25th International Festival of Films on Art of Montreal starting Friday. Two films will be shown Friday: "The Blue Revolution" documents the rise of painter Yves Klein, a pioneer of monochromatic painting; and "The Art of Henry Moore" documents Moore's work with sculpture. The films start at 7 p.m. Other films include "The Giant Buddhas" on Jan. 11, "Sigrid and Isaac" on Jan. 25 and "Panta Rei" and "Zahara and Urga" on Feb. 15.
