'Shkspr' plays one night

"The Compleat Wks of Wllm Shkspr (abridged)" will return to Port Cape Girardeau for one night Feb. 29. The three-man comedy, an irreverent look at the Bard, was performed at Port Cape Girardeau in 2006 by the River City Players. Bart Elfrink, Todd Shaw and Steve Turner will star in the comedy. Motown dance benefits Boys and Girls Club

The Cape Girardeau VFW hall will host a benefit for the Boys and Girls Club of Cape Girardeau on Feb. 8 that will have the audience dancing to the hits of Motown. Food from Port Cape Girardeau will be served and there will be a silent auction. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. All proceeds benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Cape Girardeau. Saxy Jazz plays winter gigs

Pat Schwent's Saxy Jazz Quartet will play a series of performances at the Kimbeland Golf Course Club Room in Jackson starting with a show from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday. The group will be joined by special guest Zac Priester, guitarist for the Southeast Missouri State University Studio Jazz Band.

Arts awards recipients announced

The Missouri Arts Council has announced its winners of the 2008 Missouri Arts Awards, including artists and organizations from Kansas City, Columbia, St. Joseph and St. Louis. A ceremony to present the awards and introduce Missouri's first Poet Laureate, Walter Bargen will be at 2 p.m. Feb. 13.

Chris Rock tickets go on sale Saturday

Auditions for local actors set for Feb. 2

Schrader Turner Films will audition local actors for its new film "The Lies of Others" from 1 to 4 p.m. Feb. 2 at Port Cape Girardeau. The film will begin production in Cape Girardeau on May 10. "The Lies of Others" is the stories of two young lawyers in love, Mary and Thomas, and the aftermath of the murder of Thomas's father by Mary's brother. Parts are also available for young actors -- an 8-12-year-old Hispanic girl, and two 10-12-year-old white males, both with horse riding experience.
