Choral Union begins rehearsals Tuesday

The Southeast Missouri State University Choral Union will begin its spring rehearsals Tuesday for a May 6 performance of Haydn's "Harmoniemesse." Rehearsals are Tuesday evenings from 7 to 9 p.m. in Room 155 of the Cultural Arts Center at the River Campus. Membership in the Choral Union is open to all experienced and confident singers. Dr. Peter Durow, assistant professor of music and director of choral activities at Southeast, says he is interested in keeping "a flow of new musicians" coming into the group who are interested in preparing for "high-caliber performances." Southeast students may enroll and receive university credit for participating. Community members may take part in the ensemble without receiving credit. No auditions are required. The repertoire for the spring semester will include Haydn's final major work, the "Harmoniemesse" (Wind-Band Mass), composed in 1802. This 40-minute multimovement mass setting will be performed with a quartet of music faculty vocal soloists and the Southeast Missouri Symphony Orchestra. Music will be available for purchase at the first rehearsals for $15. There are no additional fees to sing as a community member. For more information, contact Durow at 651-2342 or pdurow@semo.edu.
