'Art of World War II' in Columbia

COLUMBIA, Mo. -- "The Art of World War II: Works from Missouri Collections" is on display at the Museum of Art and Archaeology through Jan. 27.

The exhibit commemorates the 60th anniversary today of the bombing of Pearl Harbor and America's entrance into World War II.

The images were produced by international, national and regional artists and include paintings, drawings, prints and propaganda posters along with period clothing. Works come from private and public collections, including the State Historical Society of Missouri in Columbia, the Winston Churchill Memorial and Library in Fulton, Mo., and the Ashby-Hodge Gallery of American Art at Central Methodist College in Fayette, Mo.

Included are major paintings by Thomas Hart Benton created after the bombing of Pearl Harbor.

The museum is located in Pickard Hall at University Avenue and Ninth Street. Admission is free.
