The Arts Council of Southeast Missouri has announced the winners of its annual Borders Regional Juried Competition. The competition is open to artists 18 years and older living within a 175-mile radius of Cape Girardeau.
Artists were encouraged to interpret the region in any of five media. Categories and winners are:
* Best in show: Aaron Horrell of Chaffee, Mo.
* Landscape: first place, Anita Dickerson, Cape Girardeau; second place, Herb Wickham, Jackson; third place, Biki Chaplain, Benton, Ill.; honorable mention, Brenda Fleming, Pittsburg, Ill., and Dodi Conrad, Marble Hill, Mo.
* Still life: first place, Dixie Jones, Cape Girardeau; second place, Eleanor Baker, Mansfield, Tenn.
* Portraiture: first place, Annie Schuchart, Sikeston, Mo.; second place, Anne Rowe, St. Louis; third place, Anita Dickerson, Cape Girardeau; honorable mention, Donna James, Thebes, Ill.
* 3-D: first place, Utahna Hancock, Cape Girardeau
* Abstract/experimental: first place, Aaron Horrell, Chaffee, Mo.; second place, Sue Burton Cole, Cape Girardeau.
A First Friday opening reception will be held today at the arts council galleries at 32 N. Main St. from 5 to 8 p.m.
