Cinderella, Rapunzel, Snow White and Sleeping Beauty will share a stage next week when "Into the Woods" is presented by local theater troupe Acting Out!

The musical production, with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by James Lapine, has a sizable cast, with the main characters emerging from stories such as "Cinderella," "Little Red Riding Hood" and "Jack and the Beanstalk."

"The story follows a baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King's Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk," Robyn Martin of Acting Out! said in an email to the Southeast Missourian.

Ultimately, Martin said, "Everyone's wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later, with disastrous results."
