Spring concert at historic church downtown

Enjoy the choral music of Western Europe, which includes music of the Renaissance and Baroque masters - Palestrina, Percell and Bach, plus works by Mozart and Rutter. The Southeast Missouri State University Choir will present its Spring Concert at 8 pm on Thursday, April 11, in Old St. Vincent's Church.

The University Choir is conducted by John Egbert, associate professor of music, and will be accompanied by Tyson Wunderlich, a Southeast junior from Altenburg, Mo. The concert will open with choral music of Western Europe, which includes music of the Renaissance and Baroque masters - Palestrina, Percell and Bach, plus works by Mozart and Rutter. The concert also will feature folk music of America, with representative examples of spirituals, gospel, traditional folk songs and Shaker tunes.

The concert will conclude with several very modern, but stunning new 20th century works by American composers Eric Whitacre and Daniel Pinkham, and renowned Finnish composer Einojuham Rautavaara.

Admission to the concert is $6 for general admission, $5 for university faculty, staff and senior citizens, and $4 for students. Tickets will be available at the door.

The University's final choral concert of the season, "From the British Isles," will be presented April 30 and will feature the Choral Union, University Choir and the Southeast Missouri Symphony Orchestra performing John Rutter's beautiful and haunting "Requiem." That concert will be presented at 8 pm in Academic Auditorium.
