Do You Feel Guilt, y When You Put Yourself First?
"Love your neighbor as yourself" is an often misunderstood phrase. This Scripture, from the Bible, is a prominent one that most Christians try to live by. I delved into the passage and learned that it is the words, AS YOURSELF that make the difference.
You have to love yourself, first. You can't love someone else, really, until you love yourself. You may depend on others or someone, but you can't love them.
First of all, you are a child of God, made in His image. So that's certainly reason enough to LOVE YOURSELF. So must you feel bad or guilty when you participate in things that give you pleasure and bring you joy?
How do you treat other people when you're happy as compared with when you are out of sorts or miserable? You usually are less likely to be in the mental and emotional state to give back to others when you're unhappy.
Isn't the time you yell at the husband or wife and kick the dog when something unpleasant happens? But when life is going good and you feel fulfilled and good about yourself, you are more charitable and loving.
Society and the world is a better place. You are bringing joy, assistance, and love to it.
One need never feel guilty when he makes himself happy.
"Love your neighbor as yourself" means to love other people as you would yourself, not BETTER than yourself, although your may think there's virtue in that position.
Just remember if you cease loving yourself and being happy yourself, you can't help others who need your love and companionship. Don try to be the martyr who gives up everything thinking it will make you liked. You don't want to assume a victim complex. It does you no good and keeps you from growing. Other people will shun you like the plague.
Take care of your needs, so you can help other people. Then you will genuinely be "loving your neighbor as yourself"--not better than.
Please comment. Do you feel guilty when you satisfy your needs first and do you believe that's wrong?
Take care and God Bless
