Saint Francis Hosting Free Clinic for Parents of Athletes

Saint Francis Medical Center will host its first ever Youth Sports Parents Clinic on September 16. Building on its popular Coaches Clinics, this free event helps parents learn how to develop and nurture their child's athletic performance, create positive memories and show respect from the perspective of young people.

Keynote speaker Rob Miller from ProActive Coaching will discuss "The Role of Parents in Athletics" using his real-world short stories to connect his audience to his sportsmanship message and proving the power parents have to influence their student-athletes.

Heidi Hunter, MD, physical medicine and rehabilitation physician at Saint Francis, will discuss identification and treatment of concussions and conclude with an informative question-and-answer session. Hunter studied medicine at the University of Missouri-Kansas City and is certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

Parents are their children's biggest fans. Youth athletics gives children the opportunities to grow within not only themselves, but also with their teammates and coaches. To create a stronger relationship with young athletes, moms and dads should know their role during this important time in their children's lives.

The clinic is Wednesday, September 16, from 6 to 8 pm at the Isle Casino Event Center in Cape Girardeau. A light dinner and refreshments will be served, and parents can enjoy visiting a variety of educational booths.

Register by September 13 by calling 573-331-3996.
