Wellness Room Open for Health, Medicare Counseling

Broadway Prescription Shop, located at 710 Broadway in Cape Girardeau, has added the Broadway Wellness Room in their ongoing commitment to provide a full offering of health services to their clients. The Broadway Wellness Room is a recently renovated private consultation room in which customers and the general public can receive a wide variety of services, information and health-related instruction without needing a doctor's appointment.

According to Lee Schlitt, owner and Director of Operations, the Wellness Room was intentionally renovated in time for the Medicare Open Enrollment period lasting until Dec. 7. He explains, "We have many older customers who depend on Medicare, and the annual changes can be very confusing. If someone doesn't understand them, it can be very costly in the form of their finances as well as their health. As part of our commitment to providing personalized care for life, we want to ensure all of our customers are on the plan that best meets their needs by providing this private space and knowledgeable assistance."

Melissa Hoehne is the pharmacy's expert on Medicare Plan D and is available to meet privately in the Broadway Wellness Room with customers and the general public. Hoehne analyzes their medical history, current prescriptions and explains the plans that are best suited for each person.

The Broadway Wellness Room will also be used for ongoing, day-to-day health-related services. Pharmacists and trained technicians will administer blood pressure and blood sugar checks with no fee or appointment required. Cholesterol and HIV blood tests also can be given for a significantly lower cost than the fees usually associated with a doctor's visit and laboratory testing.

The Wellness room will also be utilized to administer the vaccinations the pharmacy gives that do not require a prescription or appointment. These include vaccines to prevent influenza, Shingles and pneumonia. Broadway also employs a dietitian who is available to counsel people requiring specialized diets due to diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, digestive disorders and other diagnoses that require dietary changes and restrictions.
