Day to night: Transition your makeup from the office to happy hour

A soft, pretty daytime look

It's happened to most working women: After a day at the office, you go straight to meeting friends for a night on the town. But the makeup you applied at 7 a.m. may not be fresh, or dramatic enough, for cocktails at 7 p.m.

Charlsie Hethershaw of Sephora inside J.C. Penney gave us some tips to transform your daytime makeup for a night out:

* No. 1, Hethershaw says, it to start with a good foundation. Use a makeup primer in the morning to keep everything in place during the day -- and night.

* Instead of eyeliner, use a powder instead for a daytime look. It's softer and more appropriate for an office.

* Use a tinted gloss for the daytime: It's a more natural look.

Add drama to your eyes and bright lip for a nightime look.

* To amp up your eye makeup after work, use an eyeliner to define your eye (do both the upper and lower lids). Don't worry if the liner is thick: That will look more dramatic.

* Using the same eye shadow palette from the morning, smudge the color you lined your eyes with out toward the corner of your eye for a smoky, edgy look.

* Use a brow brush to highlight your eyebrows. "It helps frame everything," Hethershaw says.

* To highlight your eyes even more, add more mascara for pumped-up lashes.

* This time, skip the lip gloss and add lipstick in a bright color, like pink or red.

* Last, but not least, touch up the whole thing with powder.
