Houston deploys to Iraq with 1139th Military Police Company

HARRISONVILLE, Mo. -- Spc. Adam C. Houston of Marble Hill is one of nearly 170 Missouri National Guard Soldiers currently deployed to Iraq with the 1139th Military Police Company of Harrisonville.

Soldiers spent 35 days training at Camp Clark for pre-mobilization training that allowed them to learn necessary skills for deployment. They learned how to use a Defense Advanced GPS Receiver for land navigation, the proper technique for removing a Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical suit, how to move as a team during urban operations and much more. Soldiers finalized appropriate training for deployment at Fort Dix, N.J. before heading to Iraq.

Houston graduated from Woodland R-4 in 2002 and received a bachelor's degree in criminal justice with a minor in sociology in 2008. He has been with the Army National Guard for eight years as a food service operations specialist.

He has already served one tour in Iraq from 2004 to 2005.

Houston is supported in his decision to deploy with the Guard by his parents, Randy Houston, of Marble Hill, and Rebecca Houston, of Murphysboro, Ill.
