Column: My best year

By Logan Young

Well, this is it. We’ve made it through another year, and it feels like it’s completely flown by once again.

Sadly, this will be my final column as the editor of The Best Years and as features editor at the Southeast Missourian. I am moving to another job at Red Letter Communications in Cape Girardeau, and I am excited to face and tackle new challenges there.

The past year for me has embodied what I think is the true essence of this magazine — it’s been one of my best years yet, full of exciting changes and new experiences, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds.

Being the editor of this magazine has been a true joy for me, and has provided opportunities to meet and interact with a number of fascinating individuals throughout the area whose captivating stories and memories have left me in awe. From discussing the origins of the Capaha Rose Garden with Barb Blanchard to meeting and visiting readers and community members at the annual TBY Expo in September and beyond, I have loved producing TBY and all the other publications I had the privilege of overseeing throughout the past year.

So thank you, readers, for the exciting journey that has been 2017. I hope you continue to read The Best Years and keep telling us your incredible stories. If you or someone you know has an interesting story to tell, please reach out and share it by emailing features@semissourian.com. We want to read about you and other outstanding community members who make a difference, have an interesting talent, or just have a cool story to tell.

I hope you all have a happy, healthy and magical Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa or any other holiday you may celebrate this season with family and friends. I also wish you a peace- and joy-filled 2018.

And for now, it’s not goodbye, just see you later.
