Cape County Tea Party Monthly Meeting

PRESS RELEASE

CAPE COUNTY TEA PARTY

MONTHLY MEETING

On June 17th, 2014 at 6:30pm, the Cape County Tea Party (CCTP) will hold its open monthly meeting at the Cape Girardeau Public Library. The meeting is called the Third Tuesday Tea Time and is held on the Third Tuesday of each month to continue the work to complete our Mission as stated below.

Transportation Sales Tax:

Amendment 7 will appear on the August 5th ballot asking Missouri voters to approve a Three-Quarter Cent sales tax increase on most items purchased in Missouri. The funds from this tax, and estimated $540 million per year, will be used to pay for transportation projects throughout the state including extending runways, bike paths, pedestrian paths, sidewalks, senior transportation, busing, transit services... ...and, of course, repaving, new lanes, new roads, and new/replaced bridges. Our infrastructure needs quality management and funding.

Many are in favor of this tax due to the continued need for road work and falling Federal funding. Others are in opposition for reasons including perceived disproportionate spending on large cities, taxing those who do not use the roads, and MoDOT spending on wants vs. needs.

Brian Okenfuss with MoDOT will join us at the June meeting to give information and take questions on the Amendment vote, the Related Legislation, and the Project List being developed.

We hope you will join us.
