Two Cape Central FBLA students place in top ten

At the 51st Annual Future Business Leaders of America State Leadership Conference in Columbia, Trenton Sanders of Cape Central High School took 7th place in the Cyber security competition, while Courtney Marquis earned 9th place in the Business Communication category. Over 2,700 Missouri high school students and teachers attended the Conference, including fourteen students from Cape Central and their three advisors, Pam Pensel, Veronica Hull and Theresa Taylor.

The Cape Central students had previously competed with eleven Southeast Missouri school districts at the District 15 Leadership Conference held on the campus of Southeast Missouri State University. With a theme of "Simply the Best," the conference featured more than 40 business-related events, and Cape Central students qualified for State competition in eight events. In addition, twelve students placed in the top 10.

Lessley Dennington was elected District 15 Vice President.

Missouri FBLA has 15,340 student members. For the fourth consecutive year, Missouri has earned an award for being the second-largest state chapter in the nation. Missouri FBLA has grown to include 428 chapters in high schools across the state. Established in 1937, FBLA is a career and technical student organization for students participating in business education programs. The non-profit organization also has divisions for "middle level" and high school students. Postsecondary students may continue their affiliation through Phi Beta Lambda, and adults may continue to support the organization through the Professional Division. Nationally, FBLA's high school division has 215,000 members, while the postsecondary division reaches over 11,000 college students.
