Cape Girardeau's American Royal Miss Benefit

For Safe House for Women

Cape Girardeau -- Contestants are being sought for the American Royal Miss Pageant on Nov. 21. The pageant, a benefit for Safe House for Women, will be held at the fellowship hall of Evangelical United Church of Christ, 33 S. Ellis St. in Cape. All proceeds will be donated to the Safe House for Women. Admission is free; but a donation of $1 is suggested.

This pageant is a natural competition for ages 0 and up with little or no makeup on the children. Makeup is allowed on the older girls. Contestants will compete in formal wear, interview and talent. A special beauty competition in formal wear only also will be held.

The age divisions are: Girls: 0-18 months; 19-36 months; 3-4 years; 5-6 years; 7-9 years; 10-12 years; 13-15 years; 16-19 years; 20-28 years; 29 years and up. Boys: 0-5 years. The pageant begins at 9:30 a.m. for the 0-6 age group and 12:30 p.m. for the 7 and up age groups.

Entry fees may be paid in advance or at the door. And they are: $25-overall; $25-beauty; $10-photogenic. Checks or money orders for advance payment should be made out to Cape's American Royal Miss. They should be mailed to Cape's American Royal Miss, 383 E. Front St., Blodgett, Sikeston, MO 63801.

Food and beverages will be sold with the proceeds also going to Safe House.

A donation box will be available for unwanted pennies and other small change.
