JACKSON -- Linda Kay Atchison, 49, of Jackson died Friday, Sept. 15, 1995, at her home near Jackson. She was born July 24, 1946, at Ford Smith, Ark., the daughter of Timon O. and Emma Kathryn Petray Mouser. She was a line technician for Procter and Gamble Paper Products Co. at Cape Girardeau...

MARBLE HILL -- Jim Ganime is changing his address before he even has time to learn all the street names in town. Ganime, the newly appointed Marble Hill postmaster, will move the post office to a new site early next year. After waiting nine years, the city will finally get a new post office building. A lot at 200 Highway 34 will eventually be home to the Marble Hill post office...

The models haven't walked the runways of Paris, Milan and New York, but they will model all of the latest fall fashions Monday at the 17th annual Zonta Club Fashion Show. The show has been the start of the fall fashion season in Cape Girardeau since 1978, said co-chairwoman Lizbe Knote, who will call the behind-the-scene shots...

Billie Waddle of Delta loves making crafts, as anyone who walks into her crafts store that sits just off of Highway 25 in Delta would soon realizes. The crafts store, which is more a hobby than a business, is full of creations of Waddle's, including paintings, perpetual calendars, hair dryer holders, clocks and wall decorations for all occasions...

Kimberly Lovig and her son, Calvin, of Jackson also attend the home educators meeting. The meetings are held six times a year as a way for parents to share ideas about better ways to teach their children. School started last month, but not all school-age children in Jackson went, at least not to the kind of school most of us think of. Janice Schario of Jackson has chosen an alternate method of educating her children -- she does it herself...

Crystal A. Stitt Air Force Airman Crystal A. Stitt of Marble Hill has graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. Ed Massey died this week at 82 and we're all poorer for the loss of such a fine man. Cape Girardeau, though, is much the better for his having lived here, raised his family and conducted business as he did for so many years. Ed was a Christian gentleman, quiet and unassuming in demeanor, a pillar of the community and an excellent example of a businessman who "lived by the Book" -- the Bible. ...

DELTA -- Thelma Myrl Pike, 75, of Delta died Friday, Sept. 15, 1995, at the Advance Nursing Center in Advance. She was born May 26, 1920, at Chaffee, the daughter of Henry and Mae Ridenour Fowler. She was a match marker for Sports Specialty and Florsheim Shoe Co. in Chaffee. She married William Pike on Oct. 5, 1939. He died April 26, 1970...

Mississippi River levees have held their ground in battling floods, the Corps of Engineers says. Levees, floodwalls, and pumping stations in the Corps' Memphis District protected $3.5 billion in property and crops from floodwaters over the past three years...

Recognition of 81 volunteers who have reached service plateaus highlighted Southeast Missouri Hospital's Auxiliary and Volunteer Recognition Dinner held Thursday. More than 225 people attended, including recipients of two $2,500 nursing scholarships funded through the auxiliary...
