The Esquire Theater's new owner John Buckner opens the theaters door to the public Monday, October 17, 2011 as he liquidates some of the interior furnishings. Buckner is selling some of the furnishings and recycling others as "some things are worth money and some things are not." The Esquire has also been housing the set from the movie "The Green Mile", which Buckner has donated to the Scott City and Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department as well as the River Campus of Southeast Missouri State University. The "cleaning out" phase of the Esquire renovations will be ongoing for the next two weeks and Penzel Construction will move forward the first week of November with securing the marquee and setting up scaffolding. A Cape Girardeau film maker will be documenting the renovation process.
