The Route M overpass at Rockview, Mo. collapsed onto the railroad tracks below after a westbound Union Pacific train T-boned a southbound Burlington Northern Santa Fe train around 2 a.m. Saturday, May 25, 2013. The crash happened near Scott County Road 210. Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter said 14 cars and three engines of the BNSF train had cleared the intersection before it was struck by the Union Pacific train. At least a dozen cars derailed. The impact pushed train cars into the concrete supports of the overpass. The conductor and the engineer were pulled from the Union Pacific and taken to Saint Francis Medical Center. Two engines of the UP were involved; one was laid on its side. Two vehicles were on the overpass at the time and five people were injured. Three from one vehicle and two from the other were taken to Saint Francis. Leaking diesel fuel from the train engines caused a fire which was battled by fire departments from Chaffee, Cape Girardeau and surrounding areas.
