5th Annual Old Town Cape Christmas Tree LightingBefore the tree was lit, people gathered for the local food trucks, hot chocolate and free s'mores stations. Live Christmas music was played by the Jerry Ford Ensemble and sang by Christmas carolers. Santa and Mrs. Claus paid a special visit, and Santa lit the tree.

1948 Rural Cape County SchoolsDuring the 1948-49 school year, consolidation of the roughly 80 small, rural school districts in Cape Girardeau County was a popular — sometimes heated — topic of conversation. Throughout that school year, the Southeast Missourian published photos of the student bodies of many of those schools. They were taken by G.D. Fronabarger, but the negatives have been lost. These images were copied from microfilm.
