I'm running for U.S. Congress because now more than ever we need someone who will stand up and say, "Stop the madness!" The voice of reason has been silent in all levels of government for far too long. I have always believed strongly in public service, but I thought my talents were best spent by running my business and creating jobs. After watching everything I cherish being compromised by Big Government mismanagement, I can no longer remain on the sidelines. Because I know that I can help solve rather than compound our current problems, I feel it's my duty as a proud Missourian to do my part and represent my neighbors in Washington, D.C. This country was founded on the premise that our liberty is secured by limiting the size, scope and intrusiveness of government. Small step by small step we have wandered off that path until we can now look back and realize that we have lost our way. I am convinced that both Democrats and Republicans cannot and will not make the fundamental changes we need because they have far too much to gain by maintaining the status quo. Libertarians derive their positions from the principle that peaceful and honest people really do have the right to pursue happiness in their own fashion. Libertarians believe in the sovereignty of the individual and are wary of the rule of the majority over the individual, even when it's clear the intentions are good. It's virtuous for people to be compassionate or self-sacrificing when it's voluntary. All virtue is lost when charity is not done voluntarily. We support the prohibition of things like robbery, trespass, fraud and misrepresentation. The Libertarian Party is for all who don't want to push other people around and don't want to be pushed around themselves. It's a live and let live philosophy. As your representative, I will make it my mission to provide a strong foundation of support for the families and small businesses in our district and the United States. How much government do you want? If you want less, you have only got one choice. Don't waste your vote. Vote Libertarian. Bill Slantz would like to challenge his fellow candidates for US Representative (MO-8) to public debates and / or forums.

Mr. Slantz says: "Since the establishment Republicans assumed power in 1980, the Missouri 8th Congressional District has grown progressively poorer. Job opportunity is bleak as a once vibrant manufacturing base has moved overseas as a result of so called "free-trade" agreements which only serve to protect moneyed special interests. The same financial institutions that helped set the table for the economic crash of 2008 were bailed out with our money by their friends in Washington DC. Our children statistically finish in the lowest percentile academically, and an entire generation that grew up with the failed experiment of No Child Left Behind and standardized testing is struggling to keep up with the rest of the world as it comes of age. Our soldiers return home from perpetual war in the Middle East, see their benefits cut, and commit suicide at alarmingly high rates. Our privacy and civil liberties are continuously threatened by domestic spy drones and a growing police state legalized and codified by unconstitutional laws like the Patriot Act, and the NDAA. Our senior citizens fund their retirement on the backs of current and future workers through a doomed Social Security system and a complex stock market that is controlled by the whims of the Federal Reserve. The family farm has given way to the corporate agriculture industry through crony capitalism legislated in farm bills."

"I know that we can do better. I have common sense solutions that stand in stark contrast to the tired old talking points served up by the duopoly party candidates. Politics is not a sport. The actions of the career politicians are affecting our daily lives. The people of the Missouri 8th Congressional District deserve to hear what the candidates have to say.
