Summer Days Are Just Ahead!
*Summer is only a couple of weeks away and vacations are being planned. If you've never visited a Missouri State Park or if you've only visited a few of the more than 50 Missouri State Parks maybe it's time, and of course in Southeast Missouri there is Trail of Tears where you'll not only enjoy the sun, shade and riverside view, but you can learn about its significant Native American history. Go to www.mostateparks.com for information on state parks; there is also a webpage where you can view all 18 parks in the Southeast Region if you want to stay closer to home.
*Shutter bugs get out your cameras! The 12th annual photo contest sponsored by the Deparment of Natural Resources is underway. When you visit the DNR website, link to information is there for contest prizes, six-categories description, submission and deadline information plus a downloadable entry form for Rural Missouri Photo Contest.
*Attention all female high school juniors and/or seniors from the graduating class of 2012 or 2013. You have the opportunity to win $3,000 towards your college experience, and an all-expense-paid trip to the National Foundation for Women Legislators' (NFWL) 2012 Annual Conference in Atlanta, Georgia, November 15th-19th! The 15th Annual NFWL-NRA Bill of Rights Essay Scholarship Contest application deadline is July 31, 2012!
For application materials and information, visit www.womenlegislators.org -the NFWL website- or contact the NFWL office at 202-293-3040 ext. 1005, or by email at events@womenlegislators.org.
*While traveling this summer don't forget that we all need to watch out for MO DOT crew working along roadsides. These state workers are our friends and neighbors. Also summer is a time when kids are riding their bikes and are outside playing while many of our adults will be riding their motorcycles, so let's be careful out there and enjoy our travels.
