Promoting and commending local talents
Players
The Trans-Siberian Orchestra brought in the local guns for its performances in St. Louis. Seven musicians from Cape Girardeau joined the world-famous music and light show in December at the Scottrade Center. Violinists Alicia Dunn, Kyle Gilhaus and Steve Schaffner, violists Rachel Hendricks and Rhett Hendrickson, and cellists Laura Hill and Michael Merritt joined the group for its last two performances in December.
Thanks Rhett for the info.
CGRG want more ladies
The Cape Girardeau Roller Girls want more ladies - well, ladies on the street but a freak in the rink. The group, which started almost a year ago, will have Fresh Meat classes again where women can try on gear, skate a little and learn more about Roller Derby and the organization.
Fresh Meat practices are free and do not mean you're committed, just that you're curious. They'll be from 6 to 9 p.m. Jan. 14 and 2 to 8 p.m. Jan. 15 at the Brase Arena building. Wear stretchy, comfortable clothes and from what I've seen, bring some water because you'll be workin'. No word yet on if Freshmen get tylenol along with the practice skates and pads.
Steamy
As business reporter Melissa Miller wrote in her blog yesterday, Cape Girardeau is in the finals to greet a steam engine on route through the U.S. Union Pacific's Great Excursion Adventure. The city is included on a route called "Little Rock Express" which runs from Kansas City, through cities including (but not limited to) Jefferson City, St. Louis, Cape, Poplar Bluff, Balk Knob, Ark., and finally Little Rock, Ark.
The route is in second place, about 2,000 votes behind The Tuscola Turn, which runs through Iowa and Illinois. Don't let the I's have it! Vote here: http://upexcursion.com/
