Looking for new and creative ways to make some extra money? Look no further than the car in your driveway. You paid a high price for the vehicle you drive, so why not put it to work for you?
1. Deliver Food
Food delivery services give customers more options when ordering in. Customers order from local restaurants and drivers promptly deliver their orders to their doorsteps.
There are many delivery food services out there, but the most popular ones include:
Grubhub: Available in 1,200 cities in the U.S. Top earners reportedly make as much as $25 an hour. They're paid a fee for every delivery, a fee for miles driven, and they earn tips.
UberEATS: Uber's food delivery service, which pays based on every pick-up, drop-off and mileage – minus Uber's fee. Rates vary from city to city, and you don't need a new car to participate.
DoorDash: Drivers earn a minimum per order plus a "pay boost" which is determined by the complexity and the distance of the trip. They also earn tips. Getting started is easy. There are no vehicle requirements, and you can typically do orientation online.
Driving for a food delivery service may be a great way to earn cash after your regular 9-5.
2. Rideshare Driving
The most obvious and simplest way to make money with your car is to drive for a rideshare company, like Uber or Lyft. Both companies have vehicle requirements, but if you own a newer vehicle, it's easy to get approved and start earning.
Drivers who work in urban areas tend to earn more, and in some areas of the country, Uber service is limited. In some cities, you can also earn a sign-up bonus. In Los Angeles, drivers can get a $400-$700 bonus for signing up (and meeting the sign-up requirements).
There are a few things you'll need to keep in mind if you're going to do rideshare driving. For starters, you'll have to be in charge of withholding your own taxes. You'll also have to get rideshare insurance to ensure that you're fully covered if in an accident while on the job.
3. Make Deliveries and Run Errands
With services like Task Rabbit and AmazonFlex, you can run errands for people and deliver packages all while earning a paycheck. Drivers can earn up to $25 an hour this way.
4. Sell Advertising
Turn your car into a big advertisement, and get paid to drive around. There are many companies that will lease ad space on your car for $100-$600 per month. There are typically driving record and vehicle requirements, but if you have a clean driving record and a newer car, you should be able to participate.
The company Wrapify pays per mile. Most drivers earn $400-$600 a month, and there are no upfront costs involved.
5. Car Leasing
With services like FlightCar, you can park your car at the airport for free and rent out your vehicle to drivers arriving at the same airport. Turo offers a similar service, but offers more flexibility in terms of the meeting place. Turo's calculator estimates that a driver would earn over $3,000 for renting out a modest vehicle for 10 days a month.
