SoutheastHEALTH presented its Sportsmanship Award to Scott County Central High School boys basketball player Matthew Blissett at the 2014 Southeast Missourian Christmas Tournament on Tuesday night, Dec. 30, at the Show Me Center in Cape Girardeau. The annual award recognizes a student who displays success on the court, in the classroom and in the community.
In honor of Blissett, SoutheastHEALTH donated $500 to the Scott County Central High School athletics department.
In nominating Blissett for the award, Scott County Central Basketball Coach Frank Staple wrote: "Matthew Blissett is a wonderful young man, both on and off the court. He has grown into a confident leader with a calm disposition that reflects throughout the entire team. Matthew is a model student and is the ultimate display of what a student-athlete should strive to be. Matthew does an excellent job of encouraging and teaching the young players on our team and is an absolute pleasure to coach."
