Marcia Wagner

Marcia Mercier Wagner, 82, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, May 12, 2024, at her home.

She was born April 14, 1942, in St. Louis to LeLand August and Virginia Hough Mercier.

She and John Calvin Wagner were married Dec. 25, 1964, at United Methodist Church in Fredericktown. He preceded her in death May 23, 2002.

Marcia was a graduate of Fredericktown High School. She attended Christian College (now Columbia College) in Columbia for two years and then completed a bachelor's of Education in English from University of Missouri-Columbia, where she was also very active with the Chi Omega Sorority.

She worked for Southeast Missourian for 15 years and had a wonderful rapport with those with whom she had contact.

She was a member of P.E.O. Chapter LY and Cape Girardeau Country Club, where she helped start the Lassies Classic two-day golf tournament.

She was a member of Centenary Methodist Church and a Bible study group at the church. She also served as a Girl Scout leader for five years and was adored by her Girl Scouts, and she adored them.

Survivors include her daughter, Michelle Dean "Shelley" (Doug) Talley of Cape Girardeau; grandchild, Eliza Mercier Talley; sister-in-law, Jane Mercier; three nieces, Marcia (Randy) MacCash, Debbie (Pat) Stoner and Donna (Mike) Davis.

Marcia was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother, August "Bud" or "A.C." Mercier. In addition, many dear friends have preceded her in death and many are still with us.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 30, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Donny Ford officiating. Committal service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 30, at Christian Cemetery in Fredericktown.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Alzheimer's Association or the Junior Golf Program at the Cape Girardeau Country Club.
