Grammy Award Winning Songwriter’s Niece to Perform at Upcoming Benefit in Cape Girardeau

Cape Girardeau— March 23, 2019 — On Saturday, April 6th, at The Water’s Edge in Cape Girardeau, MO, Regina Mouser, niece of the late songwriter and singer, Larry Henley, known for singing and writing many award-winning songs, including the Grammy award winning hit, ‘Wind Beneath My Wings”, (co-written with Jeff Siblar), will perform this song in honor of her uncle and to benefit a local couple whose lives have been forever changed by a sudden heart attack resulting in traumatic brain injury.

This past Valentine’s Day, 40-year old Matthew Highfill, suffered a sudden heart attack while watching movies with his partner of over 7 years, Ms. Lauren Moore. Moore immediately called 911 and administered CPR, but the loss of oxygen resulted in traumatic brain injury which have required the need for learning to walk, talk, and even eat again. In addition, Highfill experiences short term memory loss, remembering things for only a range of between 10 and 30 seconds right now. This couple had only recently recovered from a short stent of homelessness due to loss of employment after many years. Thanks to several local social services who have taken on addressing the issue of homelessness, including the AME Churches, ‘People’s Shelter’, Mac’s Mission, and the Caring Community Council’s assistance, both had begun new jobs and had settled into their new apartment. Prior to that, they were living in their truck with their beloved pets, Juju and Jazz who are currently being fostered until Matt and Lauren can come home from the hospital. Lauren has not left Highfill’s side since the injury, and spends her days learning to care for Matt, as this will be a long journey of recovery for both.

When asked why she answered the call to perform this song for the benefit, Mouser stated, "I was so honored to be asked to sing that beautiful song that my Uncle Larry Henley wrote. The Wind Beneath My Wings has touched the lives of so many people over the years. So often there is that certain someone that sits in the background cheering others on and supporting them without asking for applause or recognition for it. The lyrics of that song are a true representation of love and appreciation and admiration for those people; The rocks of our lives. And I just hope that I am able to convey that admiration from Matt’s family and friends using this song.".

The Wind Beneath My Wings Benefit for Matt and Lauren will be held on Saturday, April 6th between 6 pm and 9 pm at The Water’s Edge located at 7501 MO-25, Cape Girardeau, MO 63701. There will be food, a 50/50 raffle and silent auction along with music and entertainment. A $5 donation is kindly requested, however, there is no cost to attend. . In addition, guest speaker, Charlotte Boyce Craig, former director of the Cape Girardeau County Public Health Center, and current Board member and volunteer for Humane Society of Southeast Missouri, will speak about the importance of learning CPR. A table will be set up with information on where to learn these important lifesaving skills. There is a GoFundMe page for anyone who would like to contribute as well at; https://www.gofundme.com/matt-and-lauren-need-our-help.
