MARBLE HILL, Mo. — Two Marble Hill aldermen have resigned, leaving the board of aldermen without a quorum and unable to conduct city business.

First Ward Alderman Jackie Jenkins, who was elected to his first term in April, confirmed Friday he intends to leave the board because he took a new job at Wal-Mart that requires him to work the 2 to 11 p.m. shift.

“That’s the only reason,” Jenkins said. “I hope they appoint someone who can take my place and do good for the community.”

Second Ward Alderman Charles Fisher also resigned. Fisher was first appointed alderman in 2013, then ran unopposed for re-election. Fisher declined to elaborate on his decision, claiming only a difference of opinion with the rest of the board as his reason for resigning.

Jenkins has not officially resigned in writing. City Clerk Krysty Davis said the city will have to meet in a special session at a time when Jenkins can be present to vote on a replacement for him. Then Jenkins’ resignation will go into effect, and the remaining board members with the newly sworn-in alderman would vote to fill the second vacancy.

The next scheduled meeting for the board is Sept. 12. The date and time of the special meeting has not been established.
