Cynthia Lynn Briney and William Arthur Knaus were married Sept. 4, 1999, at the United Methodist Church in Livingston, Ala. The double ring ceremony was performed by Dr. James DuFriend. Reader was Carol Gullatt of Huntsville, Ala., cousin of the bride.
Organist was Dr. James Patrenos and pianist was Sylvia Gullatt, aunt of the bride. Vocalists were Bill and Dorene Gullatt of Huntsville, cousins of the bride, and Kathleen McWatters.
The bride is the daughter of Marilyn Briney of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and the late Dr. James Briney III, formerly of Cape Girardeau. Arthur A. and Sally Knaus of Oneonta, N.Y., are parents of the groom.
Marilou Baker of Tuscaloosa was her sister's matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Beth Ouellette of Gillette, N.J., and Beth Belkonen of Montclair, N.J. Honorary bridesmaids were Brighid and Elizabeth Briney, nieces of the bride. They are the daughters of Jeff and Julie Briney of Lake St. Louis and formerly of Cape Girardeau.
The groom chose Glen Erdman of Parsippany, N.J., as best man. Groomsmen were John Briney of Mobile, Ala., brother of the bride; Oliver Baker III of Tuscaloosa, brother-in-law of the bride; and Greg and Ken Gullatt of Hazel Green, Ala., cousins of the bride.
Flower girl was Bethany Gullatt, daughter of Bill and Dorene Gullatt. Ringbearer was James Briney IV, son of John Briney and nephew of the bride.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the Cotton Patch in Eutaw, Ala. Another reception was held Sept. 24 at the Newark Club in New Jersey.
Ed and Sylvia Gullatt, uncle and aunt of the bride, hosted a rehearsal luncheon prior to the wedding ceremony.
Mrs. Knaus is a graduate of Southeast Missouri State University. She is a vice president at Purdential in Roseland, N.J.
The groom is a graduate of William Paterson University in Wayne, N.J. He is a self-employed information technology consultant in New Jersey and the New York metropolitan area.
The couple is residing in Upper Montclair, N.J.
