Jill Anne Sturm and Gregory Evan Welter were married May 26, 2002, by the lake at the Elks Lodge. The Rev. William Markham of Hoxie, Ark., performed the ceremony. Reader was Patrick Abbott of Cape Girardeau. Music was by Trio Girardeaux.
The bride is the daughter of Jack and Anne McDonough of Cape Girardeau, and the late Michael Sturm. The groom is the son of Herbert and Janet Welter of Cape Girardeau.
Matron of honor was Bentley Utgaard of Helena, Mont. Bridesmaids were Laura Valentine of Chariton, Iowa, cousin of the bride, and Mala Harker of New York City.
Scott Williams of Cape Girardeau served the groom as best man. Groomsmen were Dennis Wilson and Chris Welter, brother of the groom, both of Cape Girardeau. Ushers were Wade McDonough of Jackson, Mo., and Ryan McDonough of Kansas City, Mo., brothers of the bride.
Candlelighters were mothers of the bride and groom.
Flower girls were Allison Sullivan and Makenzie Welter. Ringbearer was Matthew McDonough. Allison is the daughter of Phil and Lisa Sullivan of Altoona, Iowa, and cousin of the bride. Makenzie is the daughter of Chris Welter and niece of the groom. Matthew is the son of Wade and Julie McDonough and nephew of the bride.
Jami Abernathy of Cape Girardeau attended the guest book.
Following the ceremony, a dinner and dance was held at the Elks Lodge. Servers were Julie McDonough, sister-in-law of the bride, and Lisa and Debbie Kyner of Altoona, cousins of the bride.
The groom's parents hosted the rehearsal dinner May 25 at Celebrations.
Mrs. Welter is a 1992 graduate of Central High School, and attended Southeast Missouri State University. She is an associate at Buyer's Choice Auto Sales Inc.
The groom is a 1992 graduate of Central High School. He is employed at Blatmor Drywall.
After a wedding trip to the Bahamas, the couple is residing in Cape Girardeau.
