Wilbourn graduates from military training

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. -- Pfc. Cedric Wilbourn, of Kennett, recently completed his military training to become a military policeman for Missouri National Guard's 1137th Military Police Company in Kennett.

"I joined the Guard because I start a career and build a good life for my son," said Wilbourn.

Wilbourn graduated from basic training and advanced individual training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., Dec. 2, 2010.

Prior to training, Wilbourn served with Company E of the Recruit Sustainment program in Cape Girardeau. Through the program, he learned basic Army skills and values and became more familiar with his role as a Soldier in the Missouri Army National Guard.

Sgt. 1st Class Doyle Wicker, recruiter at the Kennett armory, said Wilbourn be a valuable asset to his new company.

"He has a great attitude and drive to be successful," said Wilkerson. "He'll bring a lot to his new unit."

Wilbourn will begin serving with his new unit in January 2011.

Wilbourn is supported in his military career by his parents Cedric Wilbourn, of Caruthersville, and Angela Morrow, of Kennett, and his son, Payton. He is a 2010 graduate of Holcomb High School.
