The Concert Across America to End Gun Violence is a nationwide series of concerts on Sunday, September 24th to bring awareness to the issue of gun violence prevention. Last year there were over 350 concerts in 43 states. This year, the southeast Missouri chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America is bringing this event to Cape Girardeau with not one but two free concerts!!
The first concert will be on Sunday, September 24 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at Cup 'n Cork, 11 S. Spanish Street. It will feature the musical talents of local singer/songwriter Chris Moore. Chris has performed at many local venues and describes his style as folk/americana.
The second concert will be on Sunday evening, September 24 from 7:30-8:30 at Christ Episcopal Church, 101 N. Fountain. It will feature classical music offerings from friends and faculty of the Southeast Missouri State Music Department.
Both concerts are free, but donations will be accepted and used to purchase gun locks for the gun safety education programs Lock It For Love and Be Smart for Kids.
This year Concerts Across America is trying to set a new world record by inspiring the recording and web posting of at least 10,000 videos of people singing the same song -“Nothing More,” by the Alternative Routes. The Alternative Route’s Eric Donnelly, whose parents were both lost to gun violence, wrote “Nothing More” for a children’s charity that advocates for kindness. The song was featured prominently in the 2014 Winter Olympics. It will be sung and a video uploaded from the Cup 'n Cork concert.
