On September 19, 2010 local triathletes from Cape Girardeau and Jackson competed in the inaugural 70.3 Ironman event in Branson, MO.
The event consisted of a 1.2 mile swim in Table Rock Lake; a very challenging 56 mile bike ride through the hills of the Ozark Mountains; and a 13.1 mile run along the shopping district of the Branson Landing. Over 1,300 athletes attempted to cover a total of 70.3 miles in what was a very warm day for September.
Jennifer Maroscher competed in her second 70.3 event and finished in a time of 7:04:22 placing 23rd in her age group. Missy Niveen Phegley undertook her first 70.3 challenge and finished 19th in her age group, with a time of 7:12:30. Brigitte Kinnaman placed 5th in her age group with a time of 5:56:32 in her second 70.3 event. Alan Shearon has competed in several 70.3 events and placed 1st in his age group with a time of 5:45:23. Taylor Vaughan placed 60th overall in his third 70.3 Ironman (9th in age group)with a time of 5:16:47.
