THIS PLACE MATTERS - Historic Walking Tour

The month of May is known as National Preservation Month and communities all over the United States are celebrating with the theme, "This Place Matters." Locally, the Cape Girardeau Historic Preservation Commission is holding an annual walking tour to highlight some historically significant places in Cape Girardeau's downtown.

Frank Nickel and Hallie Fieser of Southeast Missouri State University and Scott House of the Historic Preservation Commission will be the tour guides. The tour will start at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, May 20 at Old Saint Vincent's Catholic Church, and will continue down Main Street. The tour will pass by the B'nai Israel Synagogue and then progress through the Main-Spanish Commercial Historic District. The tour will then run down Themis to highlight Port Cape and Warehouse Row and then return to Main Street to continue along through Cape Girardeau's Historic Downtown District, till the intersection of Broadway and end at Buckners. The walking tour is projected to end around 7 p.m.
