The second grade class at Cape Christian School is doing a mission project to raise money for St. Jude's Childrens Research Hospital. The class has one student in their class that has Pre B Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. A parent of one of the students will be running the St. Jude's Half Marathon in Memphis in December and taking the donation with her. The class has turned this into a contest between the boys and the girls. The twenty students in the class and four weeks into the mission have brought in a total of 58 pounds and $472.53. A couple of parents have decided to have shirts made for the students. The students have really taken ownership to this mission, now known as "Fight Like A Kid, BEAT Cancer." Many of them are doing chores to earn money to put into the buckets. The class is also saving aluminum cans to raise money as well. The sponsors are McDonalds, Ford & Sons Funeral Home, Banterra Bank, Anna Camille Scrapbook Boutique and River Bend Rice. The students will have about four more weeks to bring in their money that will be donated to help many children battling cancer.
