Five years ago, Kermit "Moose" Meystedt helped our vision of Soles4Souls become a reality on our campus, and in our community.
While he is known to many as a generous, faith walkin' man, and record-breaking basketball star, some may not realize his role to this mission project.
Not only did he donate a trailer, to be parked for a week at St. Andrew Lutheran Church, he also offered to transport the donated shoes to Soles4Souls headquarters near Nashville, Tennessee --- at no cost to us.
More than 21,000 pairs of shoes have been donated in the past four collection weeks. Genesis Transportation has continued the tradition started by Mr. Meystedt.
It's estimated that Americans have 1.5 billion pairs of unused shoes lying in their closets.
We proudly dedicate this year's Soles4Souls shoe collection week in honor of Kermit "Moose" Meystedt.
Mayor Rediger has signed the official proclamation declaring March 22-29 as Soles4Souls Week in the City of Cape Girardeau.
During our shoe collection week, we hope you will clean out your closets, and bring your new and gently worn shoes to St. Andrew Lutheran Church, the Baptist Student Center on SEMO's campus, Soles4Souls on Campus - AG Department at SEMO, Southeast HealthPoint in Cape Girardeau and Jackson and encourage others to participate!
